4 Easy Steps to Keep Your Enthusiasm for Life
You’re surrounded! Everywhere you look someone’s “spewing” negativity, and it’s getting all over you! It’s time for you to Scotchguard yourself, so the negativity you’re being exposed to doesn’t stick.
We all have friends or family who regularly complain, or perhaps even tell us something “for our own good”.
Sometimes the solution is as easy as moving on from certain friendships. Other times it’s family, or a friendship that still has value to you.
What do you do about those family members or friends that you want to keep in your life? How do you keep going without letting their views bring you down or stall your dreams?
Here are four easy steps to Scotchguard yourself and your dreams.
1) Awareness and Appreciation
Everyone does the best they can with what they have. That includes you. When someone is telling you something “for your own good”, it is coming from a place of love. Sure their idea of what’s “good for you” may be skewed, but that’s because they are doing the best they can with what they have.
Appreciate the fact that they care about you and want to help you in whatever way they can.
Remember the Law of Attraction? Whatever you focus on and the emotion behind it will be drawn to you. Finding something to appreciate draws more Abundance to you.
2) Listen and Choose
When someone who cares gives you his or her advice, honour the person by listening. There are two good reasons for doing this. One is that the person feels validated and loved in return. Two is that you never know what little golden nugget of information they may have that you can use.
The second part of this is to choose. Choose whether or not the information they have shared serves you and your highest good. Take what portions move you forward, and discard the rest.
These three words help you achieve all this. “Thanks for sharing.” You’ve now received their gift, and it’s up to you what you do with it.
3) Allow and Accept
Know that where they are in this moment is exactly right for them and the lessons they are learning. Allow that this person may not change. Give yourself permission to be different. Give them permission to be different.
Again, remember the Law of Attraction. If it’s okay for them to be the way they are, you have removed the emotional charge from your experience. If you can love them where they are at, you open yourself up to more love and abundance.
4) Limit Your Exposure
If someone you care for happens to be an especially masterful Spewmaster, the next choice is to limit your exposure. There are a few ways to do this as well.
Technology has created a wonderful tool that allows us to stay in contact without actually being in physical contact. Email is a wonderful way to stay in each other’s lives without being overwhelmed by each other’s stuff.
You can also limit the amount of time you spend in each other’s company. If you normally visited a couple of times a week, step back to once per week. Keep your visits to a specific time limit as well. Schedule activities around these visits so you are able to leave at the chosen time. Arrange to meet for lunch rather than spending an afternoon together.
Use these techniques individually or in any combination to help you keep your enthusiasm high as you move forward in your Dream Life.
You can choose how other people affect you and your life by choosing your reactions and responses. Stay focused on your dreams. Put your energy into what brings you joy. And if need be, there’s always…
